Bianca Andreescu v Alison Riske Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Andreescu, Coming Off a Bleak Run

Bianca Andreescu started the year inside the top 10 but owing to a lack of results, she has now dropped to the #21 spot in the WTA rankings.

But perhaps, it is at the Indian Wells Open that she will reignite that spark and take the tournament by storm. After all, this is where she won her maiden WTA title in 2019 and later, moved on to ace the Canadian Open and US Open.

So far this season, Andreescu’s best results have come in Feb-March when she reached the Miami Open final (retiring in the second set against Ashleigh Barty) and the semis at the Phillip Island Trophy. Thereafter, her form took a sharp hit as she lost in the early rounds in clay and grass tournaments.

It wasn’t until the US Open that we got a glimpse of clinical Andreescu as she reached the fourth round before losing to Maria Sakkari. The 21-year-old, however, followed that result with an opening-round exit to Shelby Rogers in the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.

Riske Storms Past Liang

Alison Riske, some 10 years elder to her Canadian opponent, started her campaign in the Indian Wells Open with a 6-2, 6-2 win over En-Shuo Liang. Now, she will look to defeat the defending champion and in the process, deliver her best results in the competition.

The American has been playing here on and off since 2011 and has never made it past the second round.

Considering the season she has had so far, it is quite unlikely that it will change on Saturday – at least on paper. Riske has not won more than two matches in any WTA tournament this year, except for the Slovenia Open where she reached the final. She lost to Jasmine Paolini in the final but did bring home her first final trophy in two years.

Riske’s last stint was in Ostrava where she succumbed to Jil Teichmann in round two.

Andreescu v Riske Prediction and Tip

Andreescu will start as the favourite but given her shaky form and erratic results, Riske has a good chance here to deliver the upset. She has the experience on her side that may very well come in handy.

Expect an entertaining match of tennis that can go either way.
