Paul Looking to Build on Indian Wells Showing

The United States’ Tommy Paul is coming off a solid showing in Indian Wells.

The world no. 54 defeated Feliciano Lopez and Dusan Lajovic in the first two rounds before pulling off a stunning win over Andrey Rublev in the third round. He eventually fell to Cameron Norrie in the fourth round. The Briton went all to win the title.

Thanks to that Indian Wells showing, Paul’s numbers for the season improved to 17-20. He is 10-13 on hard courts and was 7-7 on clay, which saw him reach his only semifinal of the year in Parma.

His most notable performance on hard courts this year came in Rotterdam, where he made it to the quarterfinals before going down to Marton Fucsovics.

He is 5-5 from his last 10 main draw matches and is coming into the tournament in a pretty decent form. He will be expected to start on a winning note and build on from there.

Can Ymer Return to Winning Ways?

It’s been an up-and-down last couple of months for World No. 101 Mikael Ymer. The 23-year-old Swede reached his first career final in Winston Salem, defeating Frances Tiafoe and Carlos Alcaraz en route, but couldn’t win a first title after falling to Ilya Ivashka in the title clash.

Since that run, Ymer is 1-3, having fallen in the first round of the U.S. Open to Jenson Brooksby, in the second round in Metz to Pablo Carreno Busta and again in the opening round in Sofia to John Millman. His only victory came in the first round in Metz over Jan-Lennard Struff.

Ymer, who is 17-16 for the season, is 10-8 on hard courts, which includes runs to the third rounds of the Australian Open and the Miami Masters.

He was also solid on clay, reaching the quarterfinals in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel.

Having lost form recently, Ymer will be desperate to get his touch back in Moscow and return to winning ways.

Paul v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Having struck form in Indian Wells, Paul will look to keep the momentum going in Moscow. Ymer will pose a tough challenge, but expect the American to advance for a second round clash with Marin Cilic, who beat Damir Dzumhur in the first round.

Tip: Paul to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
