Cameron Norrie v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

Norrie has featured in two career, head-to-head meetings with Fucsovics and holds a comfortable 2-0 lead over the Hungarian.  They last met in the second round of the 2019 Canadian Open, with the Englishman prevailing in three sets.

Norrie Eyes More Glitter to Breakthrough Season

In what has been a breakthrough season for Norrie, it took all of six tournaments to go from lifting his maiden Tour title at Los Cabos to wining his first-ever Masters 1000 championship title as he capped off a sizzling run at Indian Wells to clinch the trophy.

Taking the hurt of falling at the final hurdle in San Diego, the Englishman launched his Indian Wells campaign with a trouncing of American Tennys Sandgren and followed up with contrasting wins over Spaniard Roberto Bautusta Agut, American Tommy Paul and Argentine Diego Schwartzman to storm into the semifinal.

Peaking with every game in the California desert, the Briton produced arguably his best performance in the tournament to take down in-form Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the last eight.

The fine 6-2, 6-4 win over the Bulgarian saw him set up a championship showdown with hard-hitting Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Possibly overcome by an attack of nerves in a big final, Norrie fell behind in the early exchanges against the Georgian and went on to lose the opening set 3-6 against the Georgian.

However, he recovered his poise as the contest wore on and came out swinging after the opening-set reverse to take the second in a breeze.

In the deciding set, the Briton was simply unstoppable as he razed Basilashvili with a flurry of winners to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. The maiden Masters not only saw him replace Dan Evans as the new British No.1 but also climb to No.16 in the rankings.

The Englishman would be looking to extend the purple patch as he opens his Vienna campaign against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics on Monday.

Apart from his dazzling run of form, he will also take a 2-0 head-to-head lead over the Hungarian into the contest and there’s every indication of a third straight career win over Fucsovics. However, he needs to ward off complacency against an opponent who became the first from his country to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.

Fucsovics Searching for Form

After the high of reaching his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Fucsovics failed to replicate the success on the hard court as he went down fighting to Italian Andreas Seppi in the first round of the US Open.

After two more opening-round losses at the Moselle Open and in San Diego, the Hungarian fell to his third-straight defeat to Italian Gianluca Mager in the opening round of the Indian Wells Masters.

With plenty of questions still swirling around his form, Fucsovics will open his Vienna Campaign on Monday. However, he couldn’t have asked for a tougher first-round opponent than  the new British No.1 Norrie.

Coming off his biggest career title triumph at the Indian Wells, the Englishman is hungry for more success on the circuit would look to continue his dream run in the Austrian capital.

Adding to the challenge of facing up to one of the form players in the circuit at the minute is the fact that he couldn’t beat the Englishman in two career, head-to-head meetings.

Hence, the Hungarian has to be at his absolute best if he has any chance to turn the odds in his favor against the in-form Englishman.

Norrie v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Current form, ranking and head-to-head history make Norrie an overwhelming favorite going into this opening-round encounter on Monday. However, Fucsovics, for once, wont be carrying the burden of expectations into this battle and would have the license to express himself.
