Injuries Continue to Haunt Diatchenko

31-year-old Vitalia Diatchenko has had another year to forget. Since recording her career-best year on the ITF tour in 2019 (winning six titles), her form has gone into a sharp nosedive.

Diatchenko could be excused for failing to match her exploits in 2020 when tennis and other major sports came to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic. But she hasn’t had any sort of respite this season. Her most productive week on the WTA tour came in Chicago when she made the quarterfinals as a qualifier.

Diatchenko’s struggles could be attributed to her questionable fitness record. She has had three retirements in 2021, with two of them coming in the past month in successive WTA tournaments.

The Russian missed on a wild card entrant at her home tournament in Moscow last week. And she failed to scale the qualifying rounds after losing in straight sets to Anna Kalinskaya.

Inconsistency Proving A Major Obstacle for Yastremska

Dayana Yastremska was given the all-clear from anti-doping violation in July, but she hasn’t had any respite. It is pertinent to note the Ukrainian had a bright start to her 2021 campaign in her first tournament back in Hamburg.

Yastremska would reach the semifinals, stringing back-to-back match wins in that tournament in Germany. But since switching to hard courts, the 21-year-old has picked a meager three wins from nine tournaments. What is even more alarming, she has suffered six first-round exits in that span.

Yastremska would need a consistent run of results to end the year on a high note. Last week’s defeat to Anna Kalinskaya certainly shattered her confidence. She had given the Russian a run around, fashioning 11 breakpoints but only converting three.

The 21-year-old is 5-10 since her comeback, and the draw has not been any kind for her as she draws one of the most dangerous unseeded players this week.

Yastremska v Diatchenko Prediction and Tip

Yastremska’s form is dire right now, but this seems like a very good matchup for her with Diatchenko having struggled all season as well. Expect a scrappy encounter that goes in favour of Yastremska.

Tip: Yastremska to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
