Stefanos Tsitsipas v  Frances Tiafoe  Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between both players with Tsitsipas leading the head-to-head 2-1.  They have already met twice this year, with Tiafoe winning in straight sets in the Wimbledon opener and Tsitsipas doing the same at the Olympics.

Strong Opening Win for Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas has reached a career high world number three in the ATP rankings and tasted consistent success ranging from a good run Down Under, the finals at the Mexican Open and a wonderful run on clay with titles at Monte Carlo, Lyon and a point away from the Barcelona title against Rafa Nadal.

The icing on the cake would have been a grand slam title to his name and it looked like he was there as he led Novak Djokovic by two sets to love in the French Open final only to be outdone in the next three sets.

The form and confidence took a dip thereafter with a straight sets loss to Frances Tiafoe in the Wimbledon opener and a none too impressive run at the Tokyo Olympics either. Although he made the semis at both Masters 1000s during the US Open series (Toronto & Cincinnati), it was a third round loss to Carlos Alcaraz that ended his US Open campaign.

The Greek looked in good touch to kick off his Indian Wells campaign but joined a number of top ranked players in crashing out in the middle of week two, with a quarter-final loss to eventual runner-up Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The week in Vienna has got off to a convincing start with a revenge win (from Vienna 2020) against Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, where the Greek saved three match points in a tight opening set tiebreaker. Tsitsipas will be looking for a good run this week setting him up well for the Paris Masters and year end finals in Turin over the next few weeks.

Tiafoe Hoping To End Season On A High

Frances Tiafoe maybe often regarded as inconsistent and unable to live up to the hype around him,  but he has been pulling off some impactful results in recent times. The American did well to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Wmbledon opener and then Canadian Denis Shapovalov at the Canadian Masters earlier this summer.

A good run at the US Open followed where he made the round of 16 defeating number five seed Andrey Rublev enroute, before falling to semi-finalist Felix Auger Aliassime.

The Indian Wells Masters saw him defeat Benoit Paire and Sebastian Korda convincingly before falling to Next Gen Pole Hubert Hurkacz.  Tiafoe was also involved in one of the matches of the year in the opening round at Antwerp last week, where he lost in a 3hr 45 minute thriller to former world number one on a comeback, Andy Murray.

A stacked draw at Vienna here this week saw Tiafoe surprisingly having to play qualifiers. But, the American came through convincingly and then won a straight setter in his opener of the main draw against Serb Dusan Lajovic.

Tiafoe will be looking to end the season on a high and set himself up for an even better 2022 with instilled confidence and belief.

Tsitsipas v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip

Expect another good match between these two, along the lines of their previous clashes this year. Tsitsipas looked good in the opener, but Tiafoe has had a good run since the Summer.

It will be come down to who is better on the day, but picking Tsitsipas to win it in a decider.
