Dusan Lajovic v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head

McDonald defeat the Serbian in their only meeting before this on the clay-courts of Munich earlier this year.

Lajovic Looks To Stop The Rot

Dusan Lajovic will need to defy the odds in order to pull off a win on Monday. Historically, Lajovic has not performed very well during the closing stages of a season, and this campaign is no different.

Add to his appalling record in Paris, and his first-round meeting against McDonald looks a like a recipe for disaster. Lajovic has never scaled the first round hurdle in Bercy since 2015 – the only time he won a main draw at these parts.

And the Serbian World No. 33 arrives at the tournament low in confidence after a poor run of results in the autumn. He was picked up two wins from his last nine matches. His indoor record in 2021 stands at 2-5. Something truly spectacular will need to happen in the next few days for it to turn into a positive win/loss record.

But you could make a case of Lajovic drawing some very dangerous players in the draw in recent weeks. In Vienna he faced Tiafoe right off the bat and lost in straight sets. And the week prior  in Antwerp, he fell to Arthur Rinderknech – a player whose power off the ground on an indoor hard court comes too easily.

McDonald Set For Main Draw Debut

Mackenzie McDonald is past his injury hell and the wait has been worth it. The American has enjoyed a career-best season on the tour, highlighted by his rise to a career-ranking of World No. 55. He can still make one last push to achieve a Top 50 ranking before the year-end.

The 26-year-old advanced to the biggest final of his career in Washington D.C. where he took out the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Ilya Ivashka, and Kei Nishikori along the way, before he lost to Jannik Sinner in a pulsating three-setter.

McDonald is 9-4 on indoor hard courts across levels in 2021. That record encompasses his success at the Nur-Sultan Challenger where he won the title dropping just one set all week. And impressively enough, it came just shortly after he made the fourth round of the Australian Open –  equaling his best achievement at Grand Slam level.

He is set to play in the main draw of the Paris Masters for the first time in his career, just a few days after reaching the Round of 16 in St. Petersburg.

Lajovic v McDonald Prediction and Tip

Lajovic has not been at the races in recent weeks, and it tough to imagine him turning his fortunes around in this one. We are backing the American to squeak into the second round.
