Norrie Still Has Hopes of Turin

Indian Wells winner Norrie still has hopes of qualifying for the ATP finals in Turin, although his prospects were not helped by his third round defeat in Vienna last week.

To reach Italy he needs realistically to win this tournament, a long shot especially as he is in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic.

For the moment though he needs not to look too far ahead, and just concentrate on the opponents in front of him.

He managed to do that in the first round, sweeping aside Federico Delbonis of Argentina, the world number 43, for the loss of just three games.

That gave him a second round match against Reilly Opelka, and he managed to deal with the challenge of the big serving American, with comparative ease.

One break of serve was enough to give him the first set and, although he was the first to drop serve in the second set, he broke back immediately and then again.

Serving to stay in the match Opelka saved four match points, but could not prevent Norrie closing out the contest in the next game.

Fritz Upsets Fifth Seed

Fritz waited until the end of the season before finding his best form, reaching the semi-final in Indian Wells, and the final in St. Petersburg last Sunday.

And he has maintained that level of performance in Paris with two battling three set wins.

It began with a match against the world number 27, Lorenzo Sonego, which saw the Italian take the first set before bouncing back to take the next two.

He went into his match with Andrey Rublev of Russia, the number five seed, as the underdog, but surprised the Russian in a first set dominated by serve by forcing the only break.

Fritz had to save a break point early in the second set, but with neither man offering up more opportunities, it want to a tie-break. Fritz was perfect on serve, Rublev dropped his twice and the match belonged to the American.
