Soonwoo Kwon v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

Kwon and Nishioka have never played each other before. However, both are seasoned campaigners in the circuit and should produce engrossing tennis in their very first head-to-head clash.

Kwon Keen to Get Off to a Big-Bang Start

Currently in the 53rd ranking place in singles, Kwon lifted his maiden career title at the Astana Open after prevailing in straight sets against Australian James Duckworth in the championship clash.

He also came up with good performances at the Eastbourne International earlier in the year, reaching the semifinal before losing to Australian Alex de Minaur.

However, his last event, the Indian Wells Masters, ended in a disappointing opening-round defeat to Argentinian Guido Pella. After winning the opening set, the South Korean fell off the cliff as it were, going down in the next two sets to bow out of the tournament.

However, his season opener at the Adelaide International presents him an opportunity to rise from the setback at Indian Wells and get his campaign off to a flier. However, standing opposite him in this opening-round tie is rising Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka.

Though the two stars never came face to face on the court before, tennis fans could be guaranteed plenty of thrills and spills as both are exciting talents on the circuit and it will be experience seeing the Asians going against each other for the very first time.

Nishioka Eyes Second Career Title in Adelaide

In what was a season of disappointments, Nishioka fell to big-serving American John Isner in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters before going down in the opening round at the Kremlin Cup.

There was more disappointments in store for the 53rd-ranked South Korean as he bowed out in the opening round at St. Petersburg after losing to Botic Van De Zandschulp of the Netherlands. He fared even worse at the Rolex Paris Masters as he lost both his qualifying fixtures which scuttled his hopes of reaching the main draw.

Hoping for fortune to swing his way in the new season, Nishioka will open his campaign at the Adelaide International on Monday. However, he faces a tough opponent in Kwon and has to play at his best to progress to the next round.

With already a title against his name, the Japanese knows what it takes to win events and has to bring the intensity of a champion to the fore if he has to put it past a tricky opponent.

Kwon v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

With both Kwon and Nishioka having a title against their names, neither would start as a favorite going into this opening-round clash. However, the South Korean will hold a slight edge over the Japanese on account of better recent form.
