It was a forgettable last year for Kenin after she had had one to remember in 2020 when she won her first ever Grand Slam title and made the final of another.
In 2021, however, Kenin suffered fitness issues which restricted her appearances to a mere 10 tournaments. And all she did was to win 11 matches in those.
After having made a solid start in Abu Dhabi where she was a quarterfinalist following three straight wins and then entering another quarterfinal at Yarra Valley Classic, Kenin fell to the wayside quickly.
In the eight tournaments she played thereafter, Kenin won more than a match in only one – making the fourth round at French Open – while crashing out in the opener at four of the competitions.
Can she now shrug off those defeats and storm through to the next stage in this 2022 opener?

Bronzetti Qualifies with Two Wins
Having reached a career-best ranking of 145th on the WTA charts, Bronzetti fell away a tad towards the end of the previous season where she failed to qualify for one WTA tournament and lost in the first round at three others.
Fortunately for the Italian, she did not let that affect her at the start of this season as she romped to two qualifying wins in Adelaide to make it to the main draw.
Abbie Myers was blown away in straight sets in her opening qualifier before Bronzetti overcame a first set defeat to crash through Kateryna Bondarenko in the second.
This is solid going for a player who only last year played her in maiden WTA competition.
Can she trip up the world number 12 in what would be potentially the best performance of her career?

While Bronzetti has shown the wherewithal in reaching the main draw, it seems highly unlikely she would be able to test a fully fit Kenin. A straight-set win looks likely.
