Ashleigh Barty v Cori Gauff Head to Head
The two players have met just once, in the 2021 Italian Open quarterfinal. Gauff won that match on the back of Barty’s walkover, despite trailing 4-6, 1-2.

25-year-old Ashleigh Barty had a phenomenal season in 2021 as she ended the spell with the #1 ranking for the third time in a row.
She won five singles titles to become the most successful player of the year – two of which were the WTA 1000 titles in Miami and Cincinnati. The Aussie also won the Wimbledon crown, along with lifting the trophies in the Yarra Valley Classic and Stuttgart Open.
Barty’s last event was the US Open where she fell to Shelby Rogers in the final. With a win-loss tally of 42-8, she took the rest of the year off to recuperate after a long stint on the road.

Gauff Storms Past Eikeri
17-year-old American prodigy Cori Gauff is off to a good start in the tournament. She defeated the Norwegian qualifier Ulrikke Eikeri 6-2, 6-1 – with a 71% first-service win rate and a 100% breakpoint conversion rate.
Even though the teenager still has ways to go on the WTA Tour, she has left quite a mark already at such a young age. As World No. 22, she is the youngest player in the top 100. She ended 2021 with 36-16 and also won her second singles title – this one at the Emilia Romagna-Open.
Gauff also did well in that tournament in the doubles discipline (ranked #21) with Caty McNally. The duo won the doubles title and later, emerged as the runner-up in the US Open.
Her other highlights include quarterfinal bouts in the French Open, WTA Dubai, and Canadian Open, and a semifinal run in the Italian Open.
Barty v Gauff Prediction and Tip
Barty will start this match as the heavy favourite. She has the experience, momentum, and exceptional play when compared to Gauff.
As for the American, she will need to keep her unforced errors count on the down-low. That said, she and McNally lost to the pairing of Barty-Storm Sanders in the doubles here on Tuesday. That alone should give her a feel of what to expect in the singles.
