Thiago Monteiro v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

They played once so far and it was last year in Cordoba on clay. Moutet won that match in straight sets.

Monteiro’s Dream of Reaching The Top 50

Thiago Monteiro has been a solid tennis player for several years yet the Brazilian never quite found a level good enough to propel himself into the top 50. He often hovers around the 80th spot on the rankings and this season is no different.

83rd currently, Monteiro will have a decent chance of reaching the semifinal in Adelaide after he benefitted from Monfils retiring. The Frenchman played a lot of tennis early on and fatigue ultimately caught up with him forcing him to retire.

Monteiro played a solid match and he is capable of doing that on hard courts, despite his preference for clay courts. Whether he can truly elevate himself to a new level remains to be seen but he has a very good chance to leave Australia with the best ranking of his career.

Moutet’s Journey Back Into The Top 100

Corentin Moutet is a very talented tennis player yet his attitude got the better of him a couple of times in his career pushing back his breakthrough season. The 22-year old is playing very good tennis at the moment and his results on the court prove it.

The level is good enough for the top 100 and that’s the goal yet he will need to find a way of controlling his temper. This temper saw him defaulted last week from these same courts and he has to avoid that.

He had to play the qualifiers this week in order to get into the main draw and he defeated some very good opposition along the way. Holger Rune, Jan-Lennard Struff and Marton Fucsevics are all capable tennis players yet Moutet had no issues against either of them.

If he continues to play well and if he keeps his temper in check he could find himself firmly inside the top 100 after the Australian Summer swing. To do that he will need to start with a victory tomorrow and on hard courts, he should be able to do it.

Monteiro v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Neither of these players frequents the final stages of events often but with the semifinal on the line, both will be very motivated. Both need the confidence booster as well as the points to position themselves better on the rankings.

They enjoy attacking play albeit Moutet is the much stronger hard court player. He should be considered the favourite solely because of his confidence level on that surface and it’s certainly higher than that of Monteiro.

Their lone match before this one came last year on clay where Monteiro is more comfortable. It did not matter as Moutet won in straight sets and coupled with a healthy dose of self-belief he demonstrated this week, I back him to win this.
