Two-time Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka is hoping to win the prestigious trophy for the third time in her career. Her prospects, however, may not be that great. She will need to navigate some big games ahead of her, notably against Belinda Bencic, Ashleigh Barty, and potentially Ons Jabeur or Maria Sakkari – just to reach the semifinal.
The 13th-seeded player has already achieved a great deal in her career so far and all that success has come with its costs. Last season, the Japanese was seen struggling to cope with the newly found fame and all the expectations that came with it. At one point, she even mentioned that playing tennis does not make her happy anymore.
After winning the Melbourne Slam, Osaka took some time to focus on her mental health. Her participation on the tour gradually reduced and she called it an early season in August.
That hiatus seemed to have worked for the current World No. 14. After a few months off tennis, Osaka commenced the 2022 season in Melbourne Summer Set 2 where she reached the semis before withdrawing from that match.

Osorio, Hopeful to Leave an Impression
Camila Osorio of Colombia is set to start her 2022 season in the Australian Open in what is unarguably going to be a tough match for her, especially with no practice in the build-up.
The 20-year-old had a great run last season as she moved up some 100 odd places in the rankings to end the year as World No. 55. Her highlights include winning the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota and at the end of the season, settling for the runner-up trophy in Tenerife. Between these events, Osorio also reached the semifinal in Charleston and Belgrade, and the third round in Wimbledon.
While it seems that the Colombian is a clay-court specialist in the making, she did win the US Open Juniors in 2019. Osorio has got the talent, no doubt, but her lack of experience and momentum will make things difficult for her in Melbourne.

In her own words, Naomi Osaka is as good as she can be for the title defence. She has a huge serve and aggressive playing style; meanwhile, Osorio is not fully versed with playing the big guns and may find herself at a disadvantage. However, she is equipped to give her opponent a solid run for her money.
