Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head
Two previous matches have been played between these players and both times, it was Kyrgios who came out on top.
While the first of these came at the 2019 Rome Masters on clay – a surface Medvedev absolutely detests – it was the win in the 2019 Washington Open on hard court that surprised most.

Up against Swiss Henri Laaksonen, the Russian picked up from where he left off at the ATP Cup, winning the first two sets relatively comfortably 6-1,6-4.
Laaksonen played some good games and points early on, but the Medvedev serve looked clinical as ever.
It was a more evenly matched third set with both players holding serve and the match going into a tiebreaker. However, the more experienced Medvedev ran away with the breaker 7-3 and in turn sealing the match and booking a spot in round two.

Kyrgios Puts Up a Show In Opener
Aussie maverick Nick Kyrgios returned to his favorite tournament, i.e. his home slam, where he played Briton Liam Broady in the opener.
The match had everything that a Nick Kyrgios match has and more and it enthralled the fans immensely as expected.
In a contest with underarm serves, trick shots, tweeners and the like, Kyrgios prevailed in straight sets, much to the delight of the crowd.
Despite playing a handful of tournaments over the calendar year in recent times, the Aussie brings his best skills on the biggest stage. As much as his next opponent Daniil Medvedev has been one of the players of the year last season, there is no denying the fact that Kyrgios will bring his all to that contest.
