After the reaching the quarterfinals on his U.S. Open debut last year, Botic van de Zandschulp has now won his first match at the Australian Open in what is his second main draw appearance. The Dutchman eased past Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 49 minutes on Tuesday to advance to the second round.
The World No. 57 was broken early in the first set. But he quickly overcame the slow start and turned the tables to seal the set with a double break. He was in cruise control of the second after going a break up in the fourth game and dominated the third with two more breaks.
In all, Van de Zandschulp struck eight aces, 27 winners and made 30 unforced errors in the match.
The 26-year-old was 2-2 from two warm up events leading up to the Australian Open. He reached the quarterfinals in Melbourne but was knocked out of the first round in Aelaide-2.

Gasquet Eliminates Humbert
Richard Gasquet began his 15th Australian Open campaign with a shock win over compatriot and 29th seed Ugo Humbert in the first round on Tuesday.
The world No. 81 Gasquet lost the first set but made a strong comeback to win the three-hour-and-23-minute contest 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
The 35-year-old struck 12 aces and 39 winners and won 79% first serve points. He had 10 break points in the match and he converted three of them, while his opponent could convert just one of four breaking opportunities.
A 15-time winner on the tour, Gasquet is a three-time major semifinalist but he has never gone past the fourth round at the Melbourne major. This is his first appearance at the Australian Open since his third round defeat to Roger Federer in 2018.
Van de Zandschulp v Gasquet Prediction and Tip
