Rafael Nadal v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

Nadal and Mannarino faced each other twice so far with quite a few years between the matches. The first one came in Beijing in 2016 and Nadal won it in two with the 2nd one coming in 2019 in Paris and again Nadal won in two.

 Nadal Dreaming of Number 21

Rafael Nadal is currently tied with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer for the most grand slam wins at 20. He is the only one playing in Melbourne and he is chasing that elusive number 21. Melbourne hasn’t been kind to him historically as he played only once in the final.

It was way back in 2009 and he actually lifted the trophy then. He never got back to the final but his level this year is looking very promising. It’s the best Nadal we have seen in a very long time and there is a chance he might go deep in the final.

So far he’s posted a 6-0 record in 2022 with some impressive victories. Obviously, he won the Melbourne Summer Set I event by beating Maxime Cressy in the final. In Melbourne he bested Marcos Giron, Yannick Hanfmann and Karen Khachanov.

If he can keep up that level he will be a dangerous opponent for everybody including Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.

Mannarino’s Return From Knee Injury

Before arriving in Melbourne, Mannarino had his final grand slam spotlight moment at Wimbledon when he faced Roger Federer. In that match, he slipped awkwardly and injured his knee which completely derailed his 2021 season.

He is back to playing good tennis once more and it came in Melbourne. Before the start of the grand slam, he played two matches and lost both of them to okayish opposition. In Melbourne, though he has played some spectacular tennis so far taking down quite a few notable players.

In the first round, it was a 5-set win over James Duckworth. Then it was a straight sets win over Hubert Hurkacz. Then he took down Aslan Karatsev in 4 sets which took almost five hours to do so.

His next match will be against Nadal who is a very tough matchup for him. Both are left-handed and both have precise shots. If Mannarino is good physically he can give Nadal trouble.

Nadal v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Rafael Nadal will be the heavy favourite in this matchup for several reasons. He is the better player and is playing better at the moment. The H2H is on his side as he leads Mannarino 2-0. His playstyle benefits more from the conditions here.

Mannarino can be a tricky player with his playstyle that includes an interesting way of playing the forehand and that style can create some weird angles taking time to adjust to his game. Even so, he will be overpowered by Nadal in most rallies.

Another thing to consider is the physicality as Mannarino spent quite a lot of time on the court already and with his slender build that can prove troublesome if his match against Nadal goes deep. Either way, it’s clearly Nadal’s to lose.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
