Ugo Humbert v Richard Gasquet Head to Head
These two players have played before and it came not long ago in the first round of the Australian Open. Surprisingly Gasquet defeated Humbert quite easily in four sets 3-6 7-6(4) 7-6(3) 6-3.

Richard Gasquet is getting up there in age and while most players who still play at that age do so because of the success they have, Gasquet mainly does it becomes he simply loves tennis. Walking away from something you have been doing for ages is a struggle for many.
Gasquet is no exception and the Frenchman spoke often about his plan to play as long as he enjoys the game. In 2022 he only played two matches so far with the only victory coming against Ugo Humbert. The Frenchman is a very good indoor player and it’s probably his best surface along with grass. Gasquet is fairly good on it as well yet he will need to have his serve ready. If he can’t keep up with Humbert in that department it will be tough.

Humbert’s Pivotal Season
Ugo Humbert had a bit of a down year in 2021 because the Frenchman failed to build upon his previous results. There is a lot of talent in his game yet he is unable to find the consistency needed to take himself to the next level.
The next level for him is the top 20 and he will need to do well on his favourite surfaces to get there. Indoor hard court is one of those surfaces and event’s like this in Montpellier at home are a great chance to secure some points.
He possesses a great and precise serve along with a very solid forehand which is more than enough to be a threat indoors. If he can keep his serve under control and be precise with his shots he just might earn enough points during this brief indoor season.
Humbert v Gasquet Prediction and Tip
In essence Gasquet and Humbert are similar players. They both have a precise first serve which is very key for their game. Humbert has more power in his serve but he is also younger. Both have one signature shot with Humbert having the forehand and Gasquet the backhand. Both are rather inconsistent though.
This match will come down largely to who serves better. It would not be unheard of if the match ends in two tiebreaks as well. They played two in Australia and while the conditions will be entirely different it’s a clear indicator that the matchup doesn’t suit either player.
I think indoors Humbert should have the advantage and he should be considered the favourite yet Gasquet will not be without a chance. He outplayed Humbert a few weeks ago and he can do it again despite the conditions favouring his opponent a bit more.
