Vesely Looking for First Main Draw Win This Season
Fourth seed Vesely got a bye in the opening round of Pune so has yet to compete on the Indian hard courts. Therefore, Vesely will likely be the fresher player of the two, having not played since the Australian Open.
Unfortunately for Vesely, the Australian Open saw a first-round exit for the Czech, losing out 6-3 7-5 6-4 to American Koslov. In fact, Vesely has yet to get a main draw win this year, with his 2022 wins coming in Sydney qualifying, where he got the better of Pouille and Kudla, both in straight sets, to make the main draw. Nakashima stood in the way as a round one opponent, with Vesely falling 7-6(2) 7-6(0) to the American.
Vesely also suffered an opening round defeat in Adelaide to Paul, 6-4 4-6 6-4. Meaning all of Vesely’s losses this year have come against American’s.
