Lajovic Fights Back From The Brink

Dusan Lajovic came through in a big way on Monday at the Argentina Open, but it took an incredible collapse by his opponent Benoit Paire to reach the second round.

The two-time quarterfinalist of Buenos Aires rode his luck multiple times, but the phrase fortune favored the brave fit perfectly into this scenario.

Lajovic, with his back against the wall, stared at three match points on Paire’s serve at 5-4 in the third set. But he hauled himself into the game taking the next two points before the Frenchman fired a routine smash over the baseline to cede the game.

What made Lajovic’s comeback even more special was his ability to fight back from a break down three times in that final set. He was more incisive, and his problem-solving skills gave him a foothold into the match that for so long appeared done and dusted.

Coria Sails Past Cuevas

In a match of huge momentum shifts, it was 29-year-old Federico Coria who edged fellow South American Pablo Cuevas 6-1 1-6 6-3 to reach the second round of the Argentina Open for the first time.

After last week’s chastening loss to Juan Pablo Ficovich in Cordoba, it was only natural that Coria would be looking for some sort of response in this match in Buenos Aires.

The 29-year-old from Rosario made a lightning start right out of the gate, breaking Cuevas’ serve twice and completing a 6-1 rout in just 29 minutes. however, Cuevas responded swiftly and impressively by taking the second set by a mirror scoreline.

With the match on a knife-edge, it was Coria who made the most significant move of the deciding set, breaking Cuevas for the third time in the match and kept consolidating till the end.

Lajovic v Coria Prediction and Tip

Coria recorded a solid win over Cuevas, but we are not reading too much into it considering the Uruguayan’s decline. Lajovic made his won luck and credit to him for sticking around even when he looked out of the reckoning against Paire. The Serbian’s expertise on the surface at tour level should give him a slight advantage.
