Jiri Lehecka v Boric van de Zandchulp Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, on clay in a Challenger event in Poland last year, Lehecka winning in straight sets.

Lehecka Pulls Off Shock Win

Lehecka achieved a personal milestone by qualifying for the Australian Open last month,

Although he went on to lose in the first round, there were perhaps hints of what was to come in Rotterdam, where he qualified for his second ATP event of the year, beating local man Jesper de Jong and then Corentin Moutet of France.

Few, though, would have given him much chance against Denis Shapovalov of Canada, the world number 12 and number five seed this week.

Instead, Lehecka defied all expectations with the biggest win of his fledgling career.

It was the Czech player who gained the advantage with an early break, and, although Shapovalov then held four break points to level the match, Lehecka saved them all, and went on to claim the first set.

He then consolidated that with an early break in the second set, only to immediately drop his serve in turn.

But he restored his lead with another break, and, although Shapovalov had further break back opportunities, he could not convert any of them and Lehecka went on to claim a famous win.

What a Difference a Year Makes for Van de Zandschulp

It is a measure of how far Van de Zandschulp has come in such a short time that it was only a year ago he needed a wildcard to enter his home competition in Rotterdam.

But, since then, he reached the quarter-finals of the US Open as a qualifier, and rounded out 2021 with two more quarter-final appearances in St. Petersburg and Stockholm.

2022 has also begun well. He reached yet another quarter-final in the Melbourne Summer Set event, and then reached the third round of the Australian Open, before losing in four sets to Daniil Medvedev.

This time, entering the main draw in Rotterdam on his own merits, he got his campaign off to a good start with a  convincing victory over another qualifier, Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain, the world number 129,  dropping just three games in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Lehecka v Van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip

Despite Lehecka having won their previous match, van de Zandschulp, playing in front of his home crowd, will start the heavy favourite for this match against the qualifier.

Tip: Van de Zandschulp to win: 6/19 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
