Federico Delbonis v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

Delbonis and Andujar have met nine times before this at all levels. It is the Spaniard who had more joy in this matchup, picking up seven wins. Only one of their nine previous meetings were contested outside clay. But regardless of surface, Andujar continues to be Delbonis’ real kryptonite.

Delbonis Spoils Del Potro’s Homecoming

In what could be his last match on the tennis tour, Juan Martin Del Potro went down swinging on Tuesday evening in Buenos Aires.

In front of the jam-packed crowd, it was his counterpart Federico Delbonis who emerged victorious in a match filled with emotions and tears.

The Argentinean crowd gave Del Potro a befitting sendoff. And in the event the Tower of Tandil elects not to play in Rio as expected, this was a moment worthy of its own memorabilia.

In a career that has been blighted by a series of career-ending injuries, Del Potro fought tooth and nail to get back for one glorious swansong. He may not have won a title, but he certainly won plenty of hearts.

Delbonis wore a professional look the moment he stepped on the court. And after a nervy opening game in which he was broken, he managed to summon his precision and depth to inflict more pain on his countryman. Del Potro was playing in his first match since June 2019, and the jig was up the moment he was broken back in the second game as Delbonis raced to close out a 6-1 6-3 win.

Andujar Ends Londero’s Interest

Pablo Andujar ended Juan Ignacio Londero’s interest at the Argentina Open and is now eyeing another upset in the second round against Federico Delbonis.

Andujar dominated Londero straight from the gate. Londero, who just last week reached the semifinals in Cordoba, was visibly unable to match Andujar’s tenacity and sheer power from the baseline exchanges.

Londero dropped serve three times in the first set as Andujar punished the 28-year-old’s clumsiness. However, the second set turned out to be more competitive as Londero recaptured his fluency and timing of the ball.

Andujar was always reactive, as he restored a break of serve in the third game of the second set. And he would his Argentine opponent in the seventh game once more before going on to convert on his second match point.

Delbonis v Andujar Prediction and Tip

Despite his win over Del Potro losing a little of its gloss, I do expect the Argentinean crowd to warm up nicely towards Delbonis. He will definitely need that encouragement to turn around a very one-sided rivalry that has gone against him down the years.

Tip: Delbonis to win: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
