World No. 41 Tommy Paul scored a convincing second round win over Uzbek qualifier Denis Istomin to reach a third quarterfinal of the season.
The American fired seven aces and won 86% first serve points as he raced past the World no. 267, 6-2, 6-0 in just 64 minutes.
Saving all four of the break points that he faced in the match, Paul broke his opponent twice in the first set and thrice in the second during a commanding performance.
This is the first time that the 24-year-old has reached the last eight at Delray Beach, having fallen in the second round in the last two editions. Wednesday’s win improved Paul’s 2022 record to 7-3. He was a quarterfinalist in both the Adelaide tournaments and reached the Round of 64 at the Australian Open.
The American also had a great 2021, capping off a 25-23 season by claiming his maiden tour-level title in Stockholm.

Kozlov Continues to Soar
World No. 151 Stefan Kozlov knocked out fellow American Steve Johnson in straight sets to enter the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Having come through the qualifiers, Kozlov had rallied to beat lucky loser Emilio Gómez in the first round on Tuesday. The 24-year-old kept the winning run going on Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Johnson.
In a match that lasted an hour and 24 minutes, Kozlov converted five of eight break points and saved three of four.
It was a much easier outing for Kozlov than the first round, where he needed two hours and 41 minutes to beat the Ecuadorean 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Kozlov had defeated Japan’s Go Soeda 7-5, 6-2 in the first qualifying round and was leading Bjorn Fratangelo 6-3, 1-0 in the second qualifying round when his opponent retired. Kozlov is 3-1 at the tour-level this year having also featured at the Australian Open. He beat Jiří Veselý in the first round but fell to Matteo Berrettini in the Round of 64.
Paul v Kozlov Prediction and Tip
Paul is far more experienced and also the higher ranked payer. Expect him to advance to the semifinals without much trouble.
