Auger-Aliassime Continues Strong Run

It has been a strong start to 2022 for world number 9 from Canada Felix Auger- Aliassime.

Starting the season Down Under by leading Canada to the title at the ATP Cup, the 21-year-old followed it up by a quarter-final run at the Aussie Open where he unfortunately let go of a two set to love lead against Russian Daniil Medvedev.

It was an excellent run for Auger-Aliassime last week in Rotterdam where he won his maiden ATP title breaking his finals jinx of having lost eight consecutive title rounds, defeating Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semis and finals respectively.

The young Canadian has continued the run this week with convincing wins against childhood idol Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga and rising Belarusian Ilya Ivashka.

Auger-Aliassime is in the semi-finals in Marseille for the second time. The last time he reached that stage was in 2020, when he went on to reach the final only to finish runner-up to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Safiullin Upsets Top Seed Tsitsipas

World no. 163 Roman Safiullin  reached a maiden ATP quarter-final with a second consecutive come-from-behind win on Thursday.

The Russian partnered Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Cup and played a key role in assisting Russia make a run to the final four before losing out to title winners Canada.

It was the biggest win of his career in the quarter-finals, where up against former champion and top seed Stefanos Tstisipas, Safiullin put up a clinical display putting the Greek off-guard.

A strong start to the match was consolidated as the Russian took the first set 6-4 and an early break in the second set meant there was no looking back as Safiullin closed for a 6-4, 6-4 win that would be the biggest upset of the week in Marseille.

Auger-Aliassime v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin looked good at the ATP Cup and has surprised all with a straight sets win over former Marseille champion and top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, Auger-Aliassime has been in clinical run of late and high on confidence after the Rotterdam title.

Expect a straight sets win for the Canadian.
