Victoria Azarenka v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
There has been only one previous meeting between these two players with Azarenka winning a tough three-setter against Putintseva in 2021 at Melbourne.

After having reached the fourth round at Australian Open, Azarenka had gone into her opening round match in Dubai as a heavy favourite against Veronika Kudermetova.
Unfortunately for her, despite being a 1/4 favourite to ease to the win, Azarenka was ousted in straight sets by the Russian. Azarenka was knocked out 6-3, 6-4 in one of the early shocks in Dubai.
This was close on the heels of her 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Barbora Krejcikova in Melbourne, where she had earlier lost only nine games spread across three matches.
Which is why, despite these back to back defeats, Azarenka will back herself to get out of her rut and show the kind of form that has already won her a few matches this season.

Putintseva Yet to Win a Main Round Match
She has played in only two tournaments this season but Putintseva has struggled to get going so far.
Having finished off the previous season with a runner-up trophy at Nur-Sultan and after reaching round three at Indian Wells, Putintseva would have expected to do a lot better than her showing in 2022.
At Australian Open, Putintseva was bundled out by rank outsider, Harmony Tan (who was 5/2 to win the encounter) in her opening round match.
And needing to qualify to make it to the competition in Dubai last week, Putintseva registered a couple of easy victories before losing in the final round of qualification to Marketa Vondrousova.
The Kazakh, ranked 42nd in the world, will need to do a lot better to get past a player of the pedigree of Azarenka after the kind of form she has shown so far.

Azarenka has lost two matches in a row but showed enough form this year to indicate this shouldn’t be much of a problem for her. Expect an Azarenka win albeit with some fight exhibited by Putintseva.
