Potapova has failed to shake hands with her opponent victorious since the 10th of January where she beat Kucova 6-1 6-3 to qualify for the main draw of Adelaide 2. The Russian defeated Tan 6-2 6-1 in Q1, meaning she dropped just 7 games to make the main draw. In round one of the main draw she was ousted by Brengle in 3-sets 7-5 4-6 6-1.
Preceding Adelaide 2, Potapova posted her best result of 2022 so far, reaching the quarter-finals of Melbourne (Summer Set). In the opening rounds, Potapova got the better of Cabrera and Bondar in two 3-set battles. Kudermetova awaited in the last-8 which incurred another 3-set battle, this time the Russian coming out on the wrong side, losing to her compatriot 6-2 4-6 6-0 in a 1-hour 52-minute battle.
Opening round defeats have been suffered by Potapova at the Australian Open to Giorgi in straight-sets and most recently in St. Petersburg to Sakkari, enduring another straight-set defeat. Therefore, Potapova will be eager to get a win on the board against Tsurenko.

Tsurenko Looking For First Main Draw Win of 2022
Tsurenko is playing just her 3rd tournament of the season, her first since the Australian Open. Down under in Melbourne, the Ukrainian navigated her way through qualifying without dropping a set successfully defeating Raina, Muhammad, and Avanesyan. That is where the good news ends for Tsurenko as she then drew eventual champion Barty in the opening round, losing out to the Australian 6-0 6-1 in a 56-minute match.
Prior to the Australian Open, Tsurenko attempted to qualify for Melbourne (Summer Set 2) falling in Q2 to Sasnovich 7-5 6-1 after defeating Smith in Q1. Meaning the Ukrainian is still seeking her first main draw match of the 2022 season.
These two have never played, so a win over Potapova would put Tsurenko 1-0 up in the H2H and a second-round birth would set up a tie with either Parrizas-Diaz or Schmiedlova.
Potapova v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip
This will be a fascinating clash between two high-quality players. Despite being on a 3-match losing streak Potapova is the slight favourite to get the better of Tsurenko and advance to the second round. Tsurenko does have the capacity to cause problems for Potapova and should utilise her experience to her advantage and make the match-up difficult for the Russian.
