Diane Parry will be featuring in the main draw for the second time this year. The Frenchwoman who lost in the first round of her Australian Open debut to Marta Kostyuk, qualified for the main draw in Monterrey with a convincing win over American Hailey Baptiste on Sunday.
Parry won 85% first serve points, converted half of the 12 break points that she held and saved one of two to hand the American a 6-2, 6-1 rout in 55 minutes.
The win was an easier one for Parry, who needed an hour and 56 minutes to beat Bealrus’s Olga Govortsova 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
Parry, who reached two WTA 125 finals in 2021, finishing runner-up in Buenos Aires and winning the title in Montevideo, failed to go past the qualifiers in Sydney, Dubai and Qatar on the tour tour this year.
Her record at the lower level tournaments suggest that she is a better player on clay. Will be interesting to see how she begins on her Monterrey debut.

Tomova Knocks Out Contreras Gomez to Make the Main Draw
Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova needed just an hour and 13 minutes to knock out Mexico’s Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the second qualifying round on Sunday to qualify for the main draw.
Tomova, who is yet to win a first round match this season, converted 5 of 10 break points and saved one of two to beat the Mexican 6-1, 6-4. The win followed a tough 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over China’s Yue Yuan in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
Tomova’s only other wins this season had come at the Australian Open qualifiers, when she made the main draw by winning all three qualifying rounds, but lost to Alize Cornet in the first round.
The World No. 103 had lost her first qualifying rounds in Melbourne and St. Petersburg and was beaten by Colombia’s Camila Osorio in the first round in Guadalajara last week.
Tomova’s best performances on the tour came last year, when she reached her first two semifinals on the tour at Copa Colsanitas and the Serbia Open.
