Sara Sorribes Tormo v Kamilla Rakhimova Head to Head

It is 1-0 to Rakhinova, who last defeated her more experienced counterpart in WTA Melbourne 2 in January this season. She won the match in straight sets.

Tormo, Off to a Good start in Mexico

Sara Sorribes Tormo started as the defending champion in the Guadalajara Open last week. The current world number 36 made it as far as the quarterfinal, dispatching Katie Volynets and Magdalena Frech en route.

She was ultimately downed by Marie Bouzkova 4-6, 1-6 but in the process, she did post her best performance in 2022.

Up until then, Tormo had featured on the hard courts of Melbourne in a WTA and a Grand Slam event. The 25-year-old lost in the second round in both those instances.

Albeit low on momentum, Tormo enjoyed a brilliant season last year that saw her crack the top 40. The number four seed reached the quarterfinal in Miami and Montreal, in addition to semifinal stints in Cleveland, Bad Homburg, and Monterrey.  With these, she proved her ability to play consistent and perform well in big tier events.

Rakhimova, on a Slight Decline

Since reaching the quarterfinal in Melbourne 2 at the start of the season, Kamilla Rakhimova’s form has taken a sharp hit. The 20-year-old delivered a promising run there, surpassing the likes of Aleksandra Krunic, Greet Minnen, and Tormo.

Then in the Australian Open, she succumbed in the final qualifying round to Rebecca Marino in three, demanding sets with the final going into a tie-break.

It was a similar story for the 106th-ranked Rakhimova at her home tournament in St. Petersburg, losing in the opener in Petra Martic. Her last stint was in Doha where she couldn’t make it past the qualifiers.

On the whole, the Russian seems to be fairly skilled but lacks the exposure of playing against more prominent players. However, that may change as she continues to participate in more WTA events.

Tormo v Rakhimova Prediction and Tip

Tormo has the wind in her sails and given her last week’s stint in Guadalajara, she will be optimistic of her chances against Rakhimova. Expect the Spaniard to win this one.
