Marton Fucsovics v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
It will be their first tour-level meeting. They met once at the qualifier level, with Fucsovics winning that contest in 2014.

Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics doesn’t have a great record at Indian Wells, having won just one match in the past three appearances, but he comes to this year’s tournament in decent touch.
The World No. 48 has already featured in two quarterfinals this year. One of those was in Rotterdam and the other in Doha. Last week, he represented his country at the Davis Cup, winning one and losing one of the matches against Australia.
Overall, Fucsovics has a 6-7 record this year. The 30-year-old, who has a winning record on both hard and clay surfaces, is a one-time champion on the tour and has been a finalist twice. One of those runner-up finishes came last year in Rotterdam.
Fucsovics’ form has been good this year and that is reflected even in the matches that he has lost. The Hungarian went down in five sets to Dusan Lajovic at the Australian Open and lost two tough three-setters against Nikoloz Basilashvili in Qatar and Danis Shapovalov in Dubai. On both those occasions, Fucsovics had taken the first set, but couldn’t close out the match. He will be hoping not to show nerves at Indian Wells.

McDonald Coming Off a Good Dubai Showing
Mackenzie McDonald stunned 2021 champion and World No. 22 Aslan Karatsev in the first round of the Dubai Championships and then knocked out World No. 44 Filip Krajinovic to reach the first quarterfinal of 2022, only to go down fighting against Andrey Rublev in the last eight contest.
The American will be hoping to replicate that form in Indian Wells, where the 26-year-old has a 2-3 record.
Currently ranked No. 59, McDonald broke into the top 100 last year following his run to the final of the Washington Open. He didn’t win the title, after losing a tough three-setter against Jannik Sinner, but began his journey as a top 100 player.
He has lost just two first round matches in the seven tournaments that he has played this year. So expect a gripping contest in the first round.

This will likely be a three-set contest, with McDonald edging past the Hungarian.
