Kaia Kanepi v Maryna Zanevska Head to Head
They played three times so far with Kanepi winning two of those matches. All happened a long time ago with the latest being in 2020 on hard courts. Kanepi won that match in three sets.

Kaia Kanepi is a veteran but the Estonian player is certainly playing far better tennis than one might expect from a player at this stage of her career. Her power style of tennis is well known and it still gives many players quite a bit of trouble. With a 7-3 record on the year, Kanepi will certainly enjoy her stay in Miami after a solid outing in Indian Wells.
She played in R3 where she lost to Harriet Dart but she managed a major upset in R2 sending Bencic out. Similar things could certainly happen in Miami as the events and courts play very similarly to one another. Kanepi always plays with a lot of confidence.
The factor that determines the outcome of the match is simply whether she’s precise enough with her shots. There is not much variety but counter punchers like Dart or Victoria Azarenka can certainly give her trouble. Zanevska is not one that should favour the Estonian.

Zanevska Waiting for Clay
Maryna Zanevska is not the strongest player on hard courts with the Belgian doing the majority of her damage on the tour on Clay. She is firmly waiting for that part of the season as she posted a 26-7 record last year on the surface. This year it’s been 5-5 on hard so far and that’s pretty standard for her.
She was bested by Marta Kostyuk in three sets in Indian Wells and it was a very good and close match that she could have won. She was in high spirits after that match as she travelled to Las Vegas to get married so expected a relaxed Zanevska in Miami.
That could certainly boost her confidence to put in some good work on the court however I don’t think she will have enough for Kanepi, certainly not on hard courts.
Kanepi v Zanevska Prediction and Tip
Their H2H tells a pretty clear picture. Kanepi won two of their three matches and the only match Zanevska won came on clay. That’s the surface that allows he to frustrate Kanepi the most with the Estonian player having the upper hand on hard courts.
I expect something similar in Miami with the Estonian clearly having the edge. There is always a chance that she misses the vast majority of her groundstrokes which could get her beaten but stylistically speaking she should be able to win this match comfortably.
She’s in good form, she’s playing confidence and Zanevska does not have the power to counter that. She will try and move Kanepi around but I’m not sure it will work. Take the Estonian.
