Rybakina, Getting Back her Groove

Elena Rybakina’s season has been off to a shaky start, primarily on account of her injuries and the consequent time off the tour for recovery.

After reaching the final in her first tournament of the year in Adelaide 1 (loss to Ashleigh Barty), the Kazakh was forced to miss her matches in Sydney, Melbourne, and St. Petersburg.

It wasn’t until this month that the current World No. 18 seemed to have fully recovered to get back to the action.

Competing in the Indian Wells Open, she delivered a handsome performance and reached the elite eight after dispatching Victoria Azarenka, Alison Van Uytvanck, and Viktorija Golubic. Rybakina’s journey was stopped by Maria Sakkari in straight sets with 5-7, 4-6.

With eight WTA career finals to her name and an impressive resume against top 10 players, the 22-year-old has established herself as a formidable player who can go big in due time.

Ruse Knocks Out Konjuh

While Rybakina had the pleasure of enjoying a bye into round two, her namesake Elena-Gabriela Ruse had to start her run with a first-round win over Ana Konjuh. It was a comfortable win for the Romanian, who dispatched the Croat with 6-3, 6-4.

Currently ranked World No. 57, Ruse’s season so far comprises of early-round exits. In the BNP Paribas Open, she fell to Kristina Kucova in round one while in Dubai, she lost to Simona Halep in round two – but not before clearing the qualifiers and beating Paula Badosa in her opener.

The 24-year-old Romanian showed a great deal of promise last season by clinching her maiden title in the Hamburg Open and thereafter reaching the final in the Palermo Ladies Open. That said, consistently hasn’t been a strong suit of Ruse.

Rybakina v Ruse Prediction and Tip

Rybakina should win this one – provided she is fit enough to take on the courts. On any other day, we can expect her to make quick work of Ruse but given her recent tryst with health problems, the number 17 seed is likely to exercise caution.

Tip: Rybakina to win: 2/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
