He has already shown his brilliance on hard courts and now it’s time for him to showcase his talent on clay court.
Jenson Brooksby has played just one main draw match on the surface and that ended with a straight sets defeat to Aslan Karatsev at the French Open last year. But he should be playing a lot more on the surface this year particularly after the gains he made in the men’s game since reaching the final in Newport last year. The 21-year-old is 9-4 in 2022 having already reached his second career final in Dallas.
The World No. 39 won’t be taken lightly on clay either. He already claimed a Challenger title on the surface in Tallahassee last year.
Brooksby is coming off very good performances in Indian Wells and Miami, reaching the fourth rounds of both the tournaments. Along the way he also defeated some much higher ranked players, including World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in Indian Wells for his first top 10 win.
He has been hailed as a great young talent who can become a future star. Can he make an impact on clay court as well?

Wolf to Debut on Clay Courts
Facing Brooksby is World no. 167 J.J. Wolf, who too has won plenty of matches this season but most of those wins came in the qualifying rounds or the Challenger tournaments.
The 23-year-old, who is yet to break into the top 100, is 3-3 in the main draws this season, with the three wins coming in the first rounds in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.
Interestingly he had qualified for the main draw of all the three tournaments and suffered tough three-set losses in the second round in Indian Wells and Miami against Roberto Bautista Agut and Stefanos Tsitsipas respectively.
This will be Wolf’s first main draw appearance at a tour-level clay court tournament. He hasn’t played a single match on the surface at the Challenger level either and has played two and lost two at the ITF level.
So despite his brilliant showing on hard courts this year, his inexperience on clay might halt his progress in 2022.
Brooksby v Wolf Prediction and Tip
It’s a battle between two rising stars of American tennis, who are inexperienced on clay courts. Brooksby definitely will be the favourite. Expect him to advance in straight sets.
