Felix Auger- Aliassime v Elliot Benchetrit Head to Head

Since the summer of 2021, Canadian Felix Auger- Aliassime has come of age. His impressive 2021 run included a win over Roger Federer on the grass courts of Halle, quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the Cincinnati Masters, and the US Open semi-finals among other results.

2022 was off to a good start with leading Canada to the ATP Cup title and a quarter-final run at the Aussie Open.

This was followed by a first ever ATP title at the Rotterdam ATP 500 followed by a runner-up outing at the ATP 250 in Marseille.

Coming into the Sunshine Masters, it was a disappointing run for Auger- Aliassime losing early at both Indian Wells and Miami in his openers after first round byes.

The young Canadian is looking for a good run during the clay swing over the next couple months leading to the French Open and starting early here in Marrakech. The 2021 clay court season saw many an early loss for Auger- Aliassime and he will be looking to improve on that here on.

Benchetrit Looking To Leave a Mark

Elliott Benchetrit became best known in tennis circles for an incident in 2019 in qualifying for the Australian Open. When he asked a ball girl to peel a banana for him the match umpire told him to peel it himself and scolded him for asking her to do that. That prompted a wider debate on social media about the role of ball boys and girls.

Benchetrit has done well on the ITF circuit winning three singles and doubles titles each respectively and exhibited consistency across ITF tournaments, with much of his success being on clay.

His 2019 opening round win at the French Open was his only win till date at a major and he will hope to improve on that this year. At the moment he will be looking for a fair run at the Marrakech Open where he begins proceedings agains the number one seed, Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime v Benchetrit Prediction and Tip

While Benchetrit has done well on the ITF circuit and will be comfortable playing at home. However, it is difficult to expect to cause too much trouble to the rising Canadian.

Expect a straight sets win for Auger- Aliassime.
