He now joins the big league, the main draw and will be up against a player who isn’t just ranked a few places above him, but also a clay court specialist. Krueger will find it a lot tougher than he has so far but these are also the kind of tests which change things around for good in a player’s career.

Varillas Inching up the Rankings Charts
After having played a couple of tournaments in Australia on hard court surfaces, Varillas has shifted focus to clay and done quite well this year.
So much so, he has managed to gain 18 spots on the ATP Rankings and attained a career-high ranking of 111th in the world.
This has primarily been thanks to his performances on the Challenger circuit, what with the Peruvian player having reached the final of a tournament in Santa Cruz, and made two other semifinal appearances.
Interestingly, this will only be his second ATP tournament of the season on clay, following on from his second round appearance in Cordoba. Can he help himself to an easy win and go deeper in this competition?
