Jessica Pegula v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
Pegula holds a commanding, 3-0 lead over Paolini. She last defeated the Italian in the Indian Wells last year in straight sets.

Jasmine Paolini kickstarted the clay swing with a domineering, 6-2, 6-3 win over Gabriela Lee in the Charleston Open first round.
The 26-year-old, who made her debut in the top 50 only in February this season, has a fondness for clay and has generally performed better on this surface than in other events. Case in point, 12 of her 15 ITF finals have come on this surface. Last season, she won the Challenger event in Bol and was a finalist in the Saint-Malo – both clay tournaments.
Additionally, Paolini won the doubles title with Jil Teichmann in Hamburg. Although her resume isn’t particularly impressive on the singles circuit, there is reason to believe that she can punch above her weight.
She ended last season with impressive runs in Indian Wells, Courmayeur, and Linz. This season, the current World No. 48 reached the quarterfinal in Lyon and third round in Tennis Paradise. Her last stint was in Miami where she lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opener.

Pegula, Coming off a Brilliant Run
Jessica Pegula had a fantastic fortnight in Miami having posted some of the best singles results of her career. She reached the semifinal by upsetting Elena Rybakina, Sloane Stephens, Anhelina Kalinina, and Paula Badosa. However, she did benefit from the early retirements of the last two players.
While she eventually fell to Iga Swiatek in straight sets, the American managed to reach her career-best ranking as World No. 13 in the process.
Pegula had a similar run in the Australian Open earlier in the season and back then, she made it as far as the quarterfinal. She has been largely consistent and it will be interesting to see if she manages to emulate the same on clay.
Seeded number six in Charleston, she has never made it past the round of 16 stage here.
Pegula v Paolini Prediction and Tip
This will be a good game of tennis; Paolini is well-suited for clay while Pegula will look to carry her superb form forward. For all intents, Pegula will start as the heavy favourite but may find herself working hard to win the match.
