Carlos Taberner v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, in qualifying for the Madrid Open last year, Taberner winning in straight sets.

Taberner Cruises into Second Round

Taberner entered the tournament close to his all-time career high ranking, and with the knowledge under his belt of having already won this year on clay on the Challenger tour.

He was expecting a tough challenge against the German, Yannick Hanfmann, the world number 113, in their first round match, but in the end, it las little more than a good workout for the Spaniard.

The dye was cast when Hanfmann  dropped his open two service games. Although the German got one of them back, he was immediately broken again and the set belonged to Taberner.

Hanfmann was broken again at the start of the second set, and that was the signal for him to retire injured.

Musetti Gets Morale Boosting Win Over Fourth Seed

Musetti has endured a tough ten months, with off the court problems and a loss of form affecting the ranking of a man who made the fourth round of the French Open last year and whose performances were good enough for him to qualify for the NextGen ATP finals in Milan.

Still, he is young enough to go again, especially now that he is back on his favourite surface of clay.

And, if the way that he beat the fourth seed, Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round is any guide, then better times may be in store for the Italian.

The first set began with both men dropping their serve, before the Spaniard went a further break behind. Musetti, though, could not hold on to the advantage, was broken in turn, and it went toa  tie-break which went in his favour.

Musetti then raced into a four love lead in the second set as the world number 33 struggled. Ramos-Vinolas briefly stopped the rot, but Musetti reeled of the next two games to seal a morale boosting victory.

Taberner v Musetti Prediction and Tip

This should be a close match between two clay court players. However, Musetti may just have got the boost his season needed by defeating Ramos-Vinolas, and this is a good opportunity to continue that revival.
