Ekaterina Alexandrova is a very interesting tennis player as the Russian has a very attacking playstyle that is very hard to counter when she plays her best. At times she produces an effort that is quite legendary and people watching can’t believe this player isn’t ranked in the top 10.
Regrettably for her, it rarely happens but so far in Charleston, she is playing closer to that level than her usual one. It’s no surprise she easily bested Karolina Pliskova in the previous round 6-3 6-1. It’s all about confidence for the Russian and right now she has it.
Beating her with such a level will be very tough but if there is a player to do it’s probably Linette. Can she do it, find out below.

Exhausting Day for Linette
Magda Linette played two very intense matches yesterday having to go up against Leylah Fernandez first and then Kaia Kanepi. She was quite in trouble against Fernandez losing the opening set but then rain intervened and things were much better a couple of hours later when they returned.
She turned the match around and won it albeit it took quite a bit of energy and effort. She then had to play Kanepi as well and that match was another intense three-setter that left the Polish player quite drained by the end of it. It’s a shame because that scheduling might prove her undoing against Alexandrova who is much fresher.
Tennis-wise Linette is playing her best event this year and she will like to keep it going. It’s unlikely she will have the stamina for it but expect her to put up a good fight nonetheless.
Alexandrova v Linette Prediction and Tip
Alexandrova and Linette played once before and it happened in 2019 with Linette winning a very close match. The players are quite similar in their level but I think Alexandrova has the higher ceiling. When she is truly on she is very close to a top 15 level in the world and Linette is not that.
At this event I’ve been more impressed with Alexandrova as her victories seemed to come easier. The wins of Linette were impressive as well however they came in three sets and left her quite drained. Two matches yesterday a few hours apart does not help her either.
If they were equally rested I might have leaned towards Linette but in these circumstances, I simply can’t back her. Alexandrova played better so far in my opinion and she is way more rested. I can see Linette forcing a 3-setter but I don’t see her emerging victorious.
