Unstoppable Alcaraz Looking to Keep Streak Going

Eighth seed Carlos Alcaraz is all set to impress on his Monte Carlo debut. He is in sensational form this season and will be aiming for back-to-back ATP 1000 titles, having won the Miami Open title this year.

He is also a terrific player on clay, where he picked up his maiden ATP title in Croatia last year and this year added another title on the surface by winning the Rio Open.

In his other two tournaments this season, the 18-year-old Spaniard produced his best Australian Open result by reaching the Round of 32. He also made it to the semifinals of another ATP 1000 event — the Indian Wells Open.

Alcaraz is 18-2 this season and as a result of that has peaked to a career-high ranking of No. 11 this month. Some of the names that he beat en route the title in Miami included fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 2021 champion Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud, who made it to the final on the back of some riveting performances.

Alcaraz, who has an overall record of 18-7 on clay, is 6-0 on the surface this year, and will be hungry for more.

Korda Eliminates Van de Zandschulp

Last year’s Parma Open champion Sebastian Korda made a good start to his 2022 clay season, beating the Netherlands’ Botic Van de Zandschulp in the opening round on Monday.

In both the sets, the Dutchman got the first break but couldn’t keep the lead intact for long as Korda came back on both the occasions. The first set was the closer of the two, as Korda saved a set point in the 10th game, before claiming the set.

The American eventually won the match 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 36 minutes.

With the win Korda improved to 9-5 this season. The 21-year-old was a quarterfinalist in Delray Beach and reached the third rounds of the Australian and the Miami Opens.

It will be interesting to see if he can get his NextGen Finals revenge against Alcaraz on Wednesday.

Alcaraz v Korda Prediction and Tip

Given the way Alcaraz has been playing this season, he seems set for another long run in Monte Carlo. Expect him to start with a win over Korda.
