Diego Schwartzman v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head
They played once before and it was last year in Acapulco with Musetti winning 6-3 2-6 6-4.

Diego Schwartzman played two strong matches to open the 2022 European clay season. The Argentinian is a noted clay specialist who can play some wonderful tennis on all surfaces but clay is his best one by far. He’s 10-3 on the surface this year with one final in South American although Casper Ruud proved better.
So far he took down Karen Khachanov in round 1 and Marton Fucsovics in round two with both matches being rather solid from him. Beating his can be very tricky as he is quite solid from the baseline and moves exceptionally well on the surface.
He’s quick and can hit good angles that frustrate his opponents a lot. He’s also in peak physical conditions with no issues of playing long rallies and long matches. That makes him an annoyance on the very slow courts of Monte-Carlo.

Musetti Not Stopping
Lorenzo Musetti doesn’t seem willing to stop winning in Monte-Carlo. After a solid outing in Marrakech last week the Italian upped his level considerably for this event. It’s not a surprise as he is a resident here and knows the conditions and courts well.
So far he has two strong wins behind him. He first took down Benoit Paire in a very well fought match by both players. He then easily bested Auger-Aliassime who disappointed on clay once more.
Musetti is now 4-1 on the surface with an upcoming matchup against a player he bested once already.
Schwartzman v Musetti Prediction and Tip
Diego Schwartzman and Lorenzo Musetti played once before with the Italian winning on the slow hard courts of Acapulco. It was at a time when Musetti was playing rather well and Schwartzman was not so keep that in mind when thinking about this matchup.
Both are strong clay players and both have played well so far this week. It’s going to be a close match in my opinion and I don’t think either will run away with it. Choosing the victor is tricky as both can realistically win this match. On their best Schwartzman is the better clay at the moment but it will come down to who produces the better effort.
I have to say that Diego looked a bit better overall so far and I’m going to back him to get the win. Yes, Musetti has been playing well but he defeated Benoit Paire who has not played his best tennis for a long time and Auger who is awful on clay in the past year. Neither win is impressive but be careful, you never know with Diego.
