Adrian Mannarino v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

The pair have played each other once eight times before, and Ramos-Vinolas leads their head-to-head series by five matches to three.

The two most recent matches in that sequence have both been on clay, at the French Open in 2020 and in this very tournament last year, and the Spaniard won both of them.

Mannarino Struggles on Clay

Despite being a pro since 2004, Mannarino’s solitary tournament victory on the senior ATP tour remains the title he won on the grass of Rosmalen in 2019. He has reached finals either side of that, including at the Astana Open last year, but has had to settle for the runners-up spot on each occasion.

Nor does he have a good record on clay, never having been further than the second round of his home Grand Slam at Roland Garros, and consistently struggling in Masters events played on that surface.

He is in a poor run of form currently, not having won since he reached the quarter-finals in Delray Beach.

Since then he has played five and lost five, the latest in that sequence being a three set defeat to Hugo Dellien of Bolivia in the opening round in Monte Carlo last week.

Cordoba Winner Ramos-Vinolas

In February, Ramos-Vinolas won his fourth senior ATP title, beating Alejandro Tabilo of Chile to win the Cordoba Open in Argentina. That was on clay, as were his other three successes, and all but one of his other seven finals.

Included in those defeats was the final of the 2017 Monte Carlo Masters, where he lost to compatriot and the “King of Clay” himself, Rafael Nadal.

Last week in Monte Carlo he reached the third round, having survived first two three set battles against Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, and Cameron Norrie of Great Britain.

However, after losing the first set on a tie-break, Hubert Hurkasz, the world number 14, proved too strong for him in their third set match, and it was the Pole who progressed.

Mannarino v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Ramos-Vinolas would appear to hold all the cards going into this match – a clay court specialist against a man who struggles on the surface. Throw into the equation the fact that Ramos-Vinolas is playing in home conditions, and Mannarino is out of form, and it is hard to make a  case for the Frenchman.
