Benoit Paire v Soonwoo Kwon Head to Head

Paire won their only meeting at the Road Garros in 2020, winning the first round match in straight sets.

Paire Has Lost His Last Eight Matches

Benoit Paire has just not got going this season. The 32-year-old Frenchman last won a tour-level match at the Australian Open, beating Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, following his five-set first-round win over Thiago Monteiro.

Those two wins remain the only two tour level wins for him this season. He has featured in nine other tournaments this season, losing in the first rounds of all nine.

Ranked no. 61, Paire is a good player on clay, winning all three of his ATP titles on the surface. He is 0-4 on the surface this year though, but will be hoping to end his losing streak in Barcelona, where he has a 12-10 record. He was a semifinalist in 2016, but was beaten by Federico Gaio in the first round last year.

Paire reached three quarterfinals on clay last season and will be looking to strike form on what has been the most productive surface for him throughout his career.

Kwon on Three-Match Losing Streak

Overall, Soonwoo Kwon is 9-9 in 2022, but the South Korean has lost his last two tour-level matches. The World no. 70 also lost in the first qualifying round in Monte-Carlo, thus he comes to Barcelona having lost his last three matches.

In the first seven tour-level competitions of the season, Kwon won his first-round matches but lost in the second round of all the tournaments. He then won both his singles matches at the Davis Cup against Austria before losing in the opening rounds in Miami and Indian Wells and falling in the qualifying round in Monte Carlo.

Better known for his game on hard courts, Kwon will be making his season debut on clay. He has an overall record of 5-5 on the surface. He doesn’t have much experience playing on the surface at the junior levels either.

The South Korean won his only title at the Astana Open last year. It will be interesting to see if he can deliver on clay as well.

Paire v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Paire would sense an opportunity against Kwon. Expect the Korean to put up a fight but the Frenchman’s experience should help him win the match.
