Dominic Thiem v John Millman Head to Head

They have played three times before this and Thiem has beaten Millman every single time. Their only match on clay came at Hamburg in 2018 which Thiem won easily.

Thiem Attempts to Resume Tennis

The last time Thiem won a match on the ATP tour was in May last year, winning his second round match at the Rome Masters against Marton Fucsovics.

Unfortunately, a combination of fitness woes and rustiness have laid the Austrian low. The former world number three lost four matches in a row after that including a shock first round defeat to Pablo Andujar after being two sets up at Roland Garros before calling off the rest of the season.

And Thiem hadn’t resumed playing competitive tennis till he took to court for a Challenger competition in Marbella late in March as well. And even there, the former world number three went down in the very first round to the 212th-ranked Pedro Cachin.

Thiem looks to be a little way off from getting back to where he was at his peak – that US Open triumph seems some while off already – but the good news is he is back on court again.

Millman Struggling This Season

With just five match wins this season, spread across a whopping nine tournaments, it is fair to say Millman hasn’t had it easy in 2022.

More so because three of those victories came in one tournament in Delray Beach.

The Aussie is now on a three-match losing streak which includes a qualifying defeat at the Monte-Carlo Masters where he fell to Taro Daniel in straight sets.

Add that to the fact that clay isn’t quite a surface Millman relishes – he has a 18-26 career record on clay – it might not be the easiest first round match he would have hoped for. This is despite Thiem’s obvious recent issues.

Can Millman match his performance from the previous edition of the Serbia Open where he had made round two?

Thiem v Millman Prediction and Tip

Thiem is a favourite at 1/2 but it might not be as straightforward as that at the moment given his struggles. The Austrian could scrape through in three.

Tip: Thiem to win in three sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
