Bianca Andreescu v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

Andreescu and Niemeier have never faced off in a competitive encounter against each other before this.

Andreescu Back after Six Months

Having last played competitive tennis in October last year, Andreescu will make her return to court with this first round match in Stuttgart.

And it won’t be easy for the Canadian and former Grand Slam winner, who has barely played any tennis since her maiden major victory back in 2019. In fact since that win nearly three years ago, Andreescu has featured in a mere 35 matches and lost 15 of them.

Multiple injuries and illnesses have contributed to her woes and it meant that even when Andreescu was out on court performing last year, she wasn’t winning too much.

A final in Miami early in 2021 looked to be the kind of start she was gunning for but a fourth round appearance at the US Open in August is as good as it got for her.

And with Andreescu having not played any tennis this season, this will be one of the most keenly-awaited returns to tennis in a while. Can she start things off solidly?

Niemeier Yet to Win a Main Draw Match

Following a solid last season in which Niemeier managed to reach the semifinal of Hamburg Open and quarterfinal in Chicago, a lot would have been expected out of her this year.

And to a large extent, Niemeier has managed to show her mettle, improving from a season-low ranking of 133rd in the world to a career-high of 108th. The 22-year-old, however, would have loved to do a lot more.

Because in the seven tournaments she has played this season, including one at the ITF level, Niemeier hasn’t won a single main draw match. In fact, at the Indian Wells and Miami Open last month, the German lost in the first round of qualifiers.

The good news for Niemeier is clay is a favourite surface for her and some of her best performances have come on it.

Can she take down a player taking to court for the first time in months?

Andreescu v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

On paper, Andreescu is a favourite at 4/5 but having not played for six months there will be a bit of an unknown about her. Expect Niemeier to edge her opponent out here.
