Karolina Pliskova v Petra Kvitova Head to Head
There have been four previous contests between these two Czech players and the world number 28 Kvitova leads the seventh-ranked Pliskova 3-1.
Kvitova had won their first three matches in Wuhan, Sydney and Madrid while Pliskova won their most recent contest in the WTA Finals of 2018.

It’s been a slow start to the season for Pliskova. The former winner here in Stuttgart has struggled to get going because of fitness concerns and rustiness, having begun the season only as recently as in Indian Wells and won just one of the four matches she has played so far.
Pliskova started with back to back second round defeats – following opening byes – in Indian Wells and Miami, losing to Danka Kovinic and Anna Kalinskaya, before finally winning her opener at Charleston. And even that win came against the world number 200 Katarina Zavatska.
This was followed by a loss at the hands of Ekaterina Alexandrova but more vitally, a crushing 6-3, 6-1 defeat which would have left a lot of questions for the world number seven.
Pliskova has shown in the past as well she has the tenacity to bounce back from a bad phase and it could just be a matter of time before that happens. Can it happen against Kvitova though?

Kvitova Injured in Charleston
While one cannot call this a season to remember for Kvitova, a lot more was expected out of her in Charleston where she kick-started her season campaign on clay.
She lost the first set in a fighting tie-breaker and was down 3-2 in the second to Magdalena Frech before a left thigh issue crept up and forced Kvitova to retire from the encounter.
Kvitova seems to be fit now but the big question is if she can quickly adjust to clay against the world number seven? Kvitova, like Pliskova, is a former winner here too, which makes things interesting but more so because she enters this on the back of a 8-4 win-loss record on clay last season.
Which is the same as Pliskova’s for the 2021 season!
Pliskova v Kvitova Prediction and Tip
No quarters will be given from either player and one can expect to be a tussle that goes the distance. Kvitova starts off a favourite because of her past record against Pliskova but we could still see a three-setter.
