Dusan Lajovic v Taro Daniel Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before on the senior tour, Lajovic winning in the opening round of Indian Wells in 2019.

In addition there have been three meetings on the junior tours, one of which was on clay, Lajovic winning all of them.

Lajovic Keen to Improve Recent Record

2022 so far has been a year to forget for the Serb, who had failed to get beyond the second round of any tournament he had entered heading into Monte Carlo last week.

He was hoping that his good memories of the Principality might inspire a revival, because it was there that he reached the final in 2019. But, having seen off the challenge of compatriot Filip Krajinovic in straight sets, he met his match in the shape of Grigor Dimitrov, winning the first set but losing the next two.

Playing on home soil last year proved to be a disappointment for him. He was beaten in the first round of the first Belgrade tournament and in the second in the follow-up event.

Lajovic will be keen to improve on that.

Japanese Qualifier Daniel

Daniel’s one senior win came on clay back in 2018, when he beat Malek Jaziri in the final of the Istanbul Open. And he has won clay court events on the Challenger tour, but the last of those was six years ago.

Undoubtedly his best performance to date in 2022 was at the Australian Open, where he beat Andy Murray – although the Scotsman has since avenged that defeat twice – before losing in the third round.

Since then, though, results have been harder to come by, and he lost in the first round of Indian Wells (to Murray) and failed to qualify in Miami.

The switch to clay initially did not go so well for the Japanese man, as he was beaten in the second round of qualifying for Monte Carlo last week.

He has enjoyed better fortune in Serbia, beating first Aleksandr Nedovyesov of Kazakhstan, and then Liam Broad of Great Britain, to earn himself a place in the main draw against Lajovic.

Lajovic v Daniel Prediction and Tip

Lajovic has won all four of their previous meetings, and with the benefit of playing in home conditions as well, he will be confident of extending that sequence.
