Paula Badosa v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

It’s an advantage 2-1 to Badosa who last defeated Rybakina in the Cincinnati Open 2021 in straight sets.

Badosa in a Brilliant Form

World No. 3 Paula Badosa will be pleased with the way things have gone for her this season. Standing at 18-7 and a singles title from the Sydney International, the Spaniard looks to take it up a notch on clay.

The number two seed last played in the Charleston Open where she made it to the quarterfinal before bowing out to Belinda Bencic in three sets. It wasn’t the most clinical performance by her as she also struggled against Claire Liu in round two; she ultimately took the match 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-1.

That was Badosa’s fourth quarterfinal of the season as she continues to build on her fairly successful outing in March. That said, clay is a different ball game altogether and it will be interesting to see how she fares here.

Last season, the 24-year-old won her maiden WTA title on the clay courts in Belgrade and later reached the semis in Madrid and the elite eight in the French Open. Can she do better this time?

Rybakina Knocks Out Schunk

Unlike Badosa who enjoyed a bye into round two, former world number 12 Elena Rybakina had to start her campaign in Stuttgart against Germany’s Nastasja Schunk. It was a drag for her but she won the match 7-6(3), 7-5 against the 224th-ranked teenager.

The fact that Rybakina was pushed to the limit here implies that she may not be that comfortable on the surface yet. It is worth noting that the Kazakh was forced to miss a few matches in January owing to her injury.

Now ranked #19, Rybakina is looking to make amends for her early losses in Miami and Charleston. That said, she did have a fantastic run in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers as she steered Kazakhastan with wins over Laura Siegemund and Angelique Kerber.

With eight WTA career finals under her belt, she will fancy her chances over Badosa.

Badosa v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Badosa will start as the odds-on favourite but her opponent is a strong player and when at her best, she can dismantle the Spaniard’s game. Rybakina’s chances of winning this one aren’t as bad and she does make for a good underdog bet.

This may be a long match before we see a winner, making our over 21.5 a low-risk bet to make.
