Daria Kasatkina v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two players although, both those meetings took place quite early in their careers in 2015.

Kasatkina Carves Sakkari Upset

World No. 23 Daria Kasatkina continues her blazing run in Madrid, having defeated Maria Sakkari 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. This win was preceded by a similar three-set affair over Anna Bondar in the opener.

The 24-year-old Russian is looking to build her clay pedigree – so far in her career, she has bagged only one title on the surface. It was her first WTA trophy in the 2017 Charleston Open and since then, the best she has done on this turf is reaching the quarterfinal in the following year’s French Open and Madrid Open. On the ITF circuit, however, she has six clay trophies.

Kasatkina’s form in the last few tournaments wasn’t that impressive as she fell in the early rounds in Stuttgart to Ons Jabeur and to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in Miami.

That said, she did have a good start to the year with back to back semifinal appearances in Melbourne 2 and Sydney.

Over the course of her career, Kasatkina has defeated quite a few top 10 players like Ashleigh Barty, Garbine Muguruza, Iga Swiatek, and Simona Halep. She is clearly a threat that is not to be undermined.

Tormo Knocks Out Osaka

Sara Sorribes Tormo will be pleased with how she has fared in Madrid. In the first round, she took out the reigning Roland Garros runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and followed it with a 6-3, 6-1 rout of former world number one Naomi Osaka.

These results mark some of the most prominent wins of her career as the Spaniard now looks to kick things up a notch.

She has also got a fair bit of momentum and confidence on her side, having just reached the quarterfinal in Istanbul (loss to Anastasia Potapova). Moreover, she reached the same round in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

While Tormo (current world number 47) may not have as rich a pedigree as Kasatkina, the 25-year-old is still a formidable opponent. She has an impressive 15 ITF finals to her name on clay and is also fairly well experienced.

Kasatkina v Tormo Prediction and Tip

Both players are coming off a great run in this match, especially Tormo with her consecutive wins over Grand Slam finalists. However, Kasatkina has a more reliable track record and overall form which makes her a favourite. Expect her to win this one in what can possibly be a long, dragged out affair.

Tip: Kasatkina to win, Over 20.5 Games: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
