Can Nadal Pick up From Where He Left?

Following a career best 20-1 start to the season, Rafael Nadal was sidelined for six weeks with an injury, but a fit-again World no. 4 returns to action at home in one of his favourite tournaments where he has a 54-13 record, which includes five titles.

Nadal, who captured the record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open this year, also won the Melbourne Summer Set and the Acapulco trophies. He continued his winning streak in Indian Wells, winning five in a row and reaching the final, but an injury that he picked up in the semifinals led to his downfall in the title clash against Taylor Fritz and eventually kept him out of action for over a month.

It will be interesting to see if he can return with the same sort of form that made him almost unbeatable in the first quarter, but he the lefty won’t be looking too far for now and will be taking it one match at a time.

In Madrid, the 91-time tour level winner claimed the titles in 2005, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2017. He also finished runner-up on four occasions. But, Nadal has not reached a final since 2017. He was a quarterfinalist in 2018, a semifinalist in 2019 and again a quarterfinalist last year with Alexander Zverev halting his run.

How far can he go this year?

Kecmanovic Knocks Out Bublik

World No. 32 Miomir Kecmanovic is having a terrific year and on Tuesday, the Serbian picked up his first win of the Madrid Masters, knocking out Alexander Bublik in the first round.

Kecmanovic, who has reached five quarterfinals and one semifinal in the last six tournaments, endured 19 aces from the Kazakh, but he didn’t face a single break point in the match, and converted 2 of 7 to oust the World no. 33, 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 17 minutes.

With the win, Kecmanovic improved his season record to 23-9 and his clay record to 11-5 in 2022.

In what’s been a brilliant year for the 22-year-old, he made his fourth round debut in majors at the Australian Open, and reached the last eight in Rio, Santiago, Indian Wells, Miami and Belgrade and the final four in Munich. Will he be able to keep his streak of making at least the quarterfinals intact in Madrid or will it come to an end on Wednesday?

Nadal v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Looking at Kecmanovic’s form, he may be able to take a set off Nadal, given the Spaniard will be a bit rusty. But eventually Rafa should start his campaign with a win.

Tip: Nadal to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
