Alexander Zverev v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

Overall Zverev has a 4-2 lead against the Canadian and is 1-0 on clay.

Their only previous meeting this year took place at the ATP Cup, which Auger-Aliassime winning in three.

Defending champion Alexander Zverev moved into the quarterfinals after his round of 16 opponent Lorenzo Musetti was forced to retire due to a thigh injury, while trailing 3-6, 0-1.

Dominating the proceedings from the start, the World no. 3 dropped just three points of his serve and converted 2 of 2 break points to take the first set with ease. he breezed through the first game of the second set as well before the 20-year-old Italian retired.

Following the win, the 25-year-old German extended his Madrid streak to seven matches, having picked up the title last year by beating Matteo Berrettini in the final.

Zverev had also won the title in 2018, by beating Dominic Thiem in the final. He is 17-2 in the Spanish capital and has never gone out before the quarterfinal stage. And he maintained that record this year as well.

Zverev had begun his campaign with a come-from-behind three-set win over Marin Cilic in the second round on Wednesday.

The 19-time tour-level champion, who is 19-7 this season, has reached just one final this year, finishing runner-up in Montpellier. He is seeking his third semifinal of the season.

Auger-Aliassime Rolls Past Sinner

Felix Auger-Alissime is in outstanding form in Madrid. A day after destroying Cristian Garin in straight sets, Auger-Aliassime demolished 10th-seed Jannik Sinner in a lop-sided Round of 16 match on Thursday.

The World No. 10 won 90% points on his first serve and did not face a single break point, while breaking the World No. 12 twice in each set to advance with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in an hour and 20 minutes.

The Canadian was equally impressive on Wednesday, demolishing the Chilean 6-3, 6-0 in an hour and 10 minutes.

With the two wins, Auger-Alissime improved to 21-10 this season. He had won his maiden ATP title in Rotterdam and finished runner-up in Marseille earlier this year. The 21-year-old also led Canada to victory at the ATP Cup and reached a maiden Australian Open quarterfinal.

He fell at the last eight stage in the previous two tournaments in Barcelona and Estoril and will be hoping to avoid a hat-trick of quarterfinal exits on Friday.
