Frances Tiafoe v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Krajinovic leads their head to head series by two matches to one.

The Serb won their first two meetings, both on clay, at Memphis in 2015, and at the French Open four years later. Three months after that, at Winston Salem, Tiafoe was a set up when Krajinovic was forced to retire with an injury.

Krajinovic Struggling to Find His Best Form

Krajinovic is making his third appearance in Rome, having reached the third round two years ago, but failing to get beyond the opening round last year.

The Serb is struggling to find the level of form that has seen him reach four ATP finals in the past, including on the clay of Hamburg at the European Open last July.

His best result of the year to date, came in Montpellier in February, when he reached the semi-finals on indoor hard courts.

Since then he has only won three matches, and has never been beyond the second round of any event he has entered. And that run continued in Madrid last week, when he played John Isner in the first-round. The American out-lasted him in a first set tie-break, and was able to close out the match in the second.

Estoril Finalist Tiafoe

Tiafoe has an even more modest record in the Italian capital, never having previously won a main draw match here, and failing to even qualify for the event last year.

However, after a period when his career seemed to have stalled, he has come back with fresh energy and focus this year, and was rewarded with a fourth round appearance in Miami.

He followed that up by reaching the quarter-finals in Houston, before switching to Europe.

The American arrived in Estoril under the weather, but showed remarkable powers of recovery to reach the final, surviving a series of tight three set matches, before losing to the Argentine Sebastian Baez in straight sets.

His exertions in Portugal may have taken its toll on him though, as he suffered a one-sided opening round defeat in Madrid at the hands of the Chilean Cristian Garin.

A few days’ rest since then may have done him the world of good.

Krajinovic v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip

Although Krajinovic has won both their two previous meetings on clay, hie is not in good form right now, whereas Tiafoe is, despite his setback in Madrid last week. That would appear to make the American favourite.

Tip: Tiafoe to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
