Lloyd Harris v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

They played once before and it came in 2021 in Dubai with Karatsev 6-3 6-2.

Struggle-fest for Harris

Lloyd Harris had a pretty decent season last year posting an overall 33-22 record and breaking inside the top 50. The South African has not been able to keep that up this season as his record so far is 6-11 and that’s far from good. He’s a player whose game largely depends on his serve.

It’s strong and precise and his very powerful forehand helps him establish that one-two punch that many players have. Obviously, that sort of limited game works only on some surfaces and clay is not one of them. He was 2-4 last year and he’s not much better this year.

Harris had a pretty rough going recently with only a couple of wins in Barcelona a bright spot. He has talent but he’ll never be a top player on clay. In Rome, things are not looking good for him and he lost in round one last year to Garin.

Karatsev Not Great on Clay

Aslan Karatsev is capable of playing good tennis on clay as his overall career record of 160-104 on the surface shows. That has not been the case this season though as the Russian is currently 0-3 on the surface with three consecutive losses in Monte- Carlo, Belgrade and Madrid.

He’s 8-10 on the year so generally, it’s been a struggle this year. Last year was pretty good with 37-20 and 9-6 on clay so it’s not clear what is happening. Obviously, Karatasev his a wall at one point last year not being able to compete with the best of the best.

He still has talent though and obviously, things will change eventually. Whether it’s going to happen in Rome remains to be seen as he crashed out early last year to Reilly Opelka which is far from promising.

Harris v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

This is a matchup of two players who are not having a very good year. They are not having a good year on clay either with Karatsev still winless on the surface. Historically, the Russian has been the better player on the surface but this year things are not going well.

They played once before and it happened last year in Dubai. Karatsev won easily despite Dubai being perfect for Harris and his game. That signals me that this is a matchup where Karatsev might have the upper hand. He’s certainly better on clay and moves better.

I think all of that combined should give him the slight edge but it’s not set in stone. Harris actually won two matches on the surface of clay and Karatsev lost to Opelka last year in Rome. Opelka plays very similar to Harris. Be careful but I’ll back Karatsev to get it, it’s time.

Tip: Karatsev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
