Jelena Ostapenko v Lauren Davis Head to Head
They played three times in the past with Ostapenko winning two of them. It was the most recent one in Birmingham with Ostapenko winning 6-4 6-1 on grass.

Jelena Ostapenko started off the year rather well but in recent weeks the Latvian tennis players cooled off quite a bit. She’s 14-7 overall which is pretty good as Ostapenko is slowly getting back to where she was a few years ago after lifting the French Open.
Historically she’s been a tremendous clay player winning double the matches she lost on the surface. After all in 2017, she went 21-4 on clay. This year she only played one match and it came in Madrid losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova who went on to play in the semifinals.
Ostapenko will certainly be searching for her form and in Rome, she might just find it. It seems like she is finally back to playing good tennis semi-regularly which means she will catch fire sooner rather than later. The opponent is one she can do it against.

Davis Back on Clay
Lauren Davis has always been a pretty strong clay player which is rather unusual as she is coming from America. She employs very interesting tennis to watch full of variety and good court coverage which is again unusual due to her short stature.
She does not attack naturally which should make her time on the court quite miserable against Ostapenko. She will be watching the ball fly by a lot and she will have to run a lot. It will matter if her opponent hits more winners than errors but generally speaking, Ostapenko is a nightmare matchup for her.
Davis is 11-9 on the year and 3-3 on clay which is solid. She also won two matches in the qualifiers but none of that will matter against the overpowering Ostapenko.
Ostapenko v Davis Prediction and Tip
The only time Davis defeated Ostapenko was back in 2017 when the Latvian retired from the match due to an injury. All the other matches were won by Ostapenko relatively easily which just indicates how much of a bad matchup problem Ostapenko is her for her opponent.
Neither of those matches were pretty close and they came on two different surfaces. One was on clay and they happened relatively recently which makes me believe this one will go no different. Back Ostapenko to win easily in this one as well.
